Which categories of goods exported from China to the United States declined in April?
In April 2024, the volume of containers imported by the United States from mainland China turned down year-on-year, increasing by 6.73% from March this year but falling by 1.81% year-on-year in March 2023. Today we will conduct a detailed category analysis on the HS codes of export commodities in April.
I compiled the export data of different commodity categories in April 2024 and April 2023, including the first two digits of the commodity code (HS Code) of each category, description, and the corresponding export volume TEU volume in the two months .
As can be seen from the table, the number one ranking is furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furniture, etc. The export volume in April 2024 was 173,496 TEU, compared with April 2023 184,567 TEUs decreased, with a year-on-year change rate of -6.00%.
Ranking second are nuclear power plants, boilers, machinery and mechanical equipment, etc. The export volume in April 2024 was 113,390 TEUs, a slight increase, with a change rate of 0.78%.
Ranking third was plastics and their products, which also exceeded 100,000 TEU, with 100,067 TEU falling slightly by 0.49%.
We can see some downward trends again in the apparel category in April 2024. Specifically: the 13th-ranked product category (61 chapters) involves clothing and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted, with a year-on-year decrease of 18.48%. The 19th-ranked product category (62 chapters) involves clothing and clothing accessories, not knitted or non-crocheted, with a year-on-year decrease of 9.10%. The 63rd ranked product category (42 chapters) involves leather products, including certain clothing accessories, with a year-on-year decrease of 20.34%
