Trump considers privatizing the USPS
On December 17, according to people familiar with the matter, US President-elect Trump has expressed a strong interest in privatizing the USPS in recent weeks. The USPS has lost more than $100 billion since 2007. In the fiscal year ending September 30, the company had a net loss of $9.5 billion, $3 billion more than last year, mainly due to a year-on-year increase in non-cash workers’ compensation expenses.
According to reports, when Trump learned of the agency’s annual losses, he said the government should not subsidize the agency. Trump has discussed the idea of privatizing the postal service with his nominee for Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick.
