During the seizure operation, Indian Customs detained 122 containers on a container ship named Wan Hai 513. The reason given by India for the seizure was that these containers were suspected of containing banned fireworks, electronic products, microchips and other contraband from China!
Ahead of the massive seizure, the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) issued an order to managers of all container freight terminals and port terminals in Nhava Sheva, saying it had received confidential information that the container cargo to be seized involved false declarations. . Port cargo terminal management detained the containers at their premises and submitted detailed information, including customs declarations, assessments and inspection status, to the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) via email.
The Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) said it has information on the supply of trade goods linked to duty evasion, which contained banned Chinese firecrackers. However, the specific information received by the CIU and the purpose of the search were known only to a handful of officials involved in the investigation. The customs department has not officially released any information about the operation.
