CMA CGM invested $2.67 billion to order 12 new ships
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai-Samho announced an order worth $2.67 billion – 12 15,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships.
It is understood that the buyer behind this huge order is the world’s third largest shipping company – France’s CMA CGM. The two shipyards will split the order and build 6 new ships each, all of which will be delivered in 2028
As early as last month, there was news that CMA CGM and South Korea’s HD Hyundai signed a letter of intent for 20 liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships, including 12 16,000 TEU ships and 8 8,000 TEU ships.
In recent years, CMA CGM has been active in the new shipbuilding market. Currently, CMA CGM holds a new ship order of nearly 1 million TEUs, second only to MSC.
A large number of new ship orders have made CMA CGM’s current total capacity (existing capacity + newly ordered capacity) surpass Maersk in one fell swoop!
As of July 17, 2024, CMA CGM’s total capacity (existing capacity + newly ordered capacity) reached 4,739,746 TEUs, 12,834 TEUs more than Maersk’s 4,726,912 TEUs
